Neil deGrasse Tyson tweeted that over 500 Americans die in 48 hours from medical error (making around 100,000 per year). Irrespective of what you think about the insensitivity of the tweet only a day after 2 mass shootings, was he actually accurate about this oft-repeated 'statistic'? He's hardly the first to say it, but as the world's most famous science communicator, people trust what he says.
